International Student Program: A Welcoming Start in Vernon

The International Student Program is off to a positive start for the 2026/27 school year. While academic performance is one measure of student success, the successful transition of students into new homes, schools, environments, and daily life in Vernon is equally important. This year, international students are studying at all five secondary schools and three elementary schools in the district.

With the support of international teachers, homestay coordinators, program staff, district staff, and homestay families, students are integrating successfully into their schools and the broader community. Many students have already shared that they feel welcome and supported in SD22 schools.

Another indicator of success is the continued growth and popularity of the SD22 International Student Program, which began this school year with the highest enrolment in the program’s history at 251 FTE. Former students’ positive experiences and high satisfaction have helped build the program’s reputation around the world, encouraging more students to choose Vernon for their study abroad experience.
